SHOKEN has completed the graduate course at Doshisha University and graduated from Graduate School of University Rochester, NY. She has been in a teaching position at various universities in the USA for eight years. At the same time, she has been teaching meditation method based on Mantrayana to many people in Japan. In 1994, she has received Abhisekha from Shingon-Risshu and Koyasan Shingonshu, and became an ordained priestess. In 1995, Shoken and Rev. Eijun Eidson formed the Shingon Buddhist International Institute, a non profit church. They have also started Tenchiji (The Heaven Earth Temple), and have been appointed as missionaries by Koyasan Headquarter. They have been engaging themselves in translation and publication in order to share the Shingon teaching with English speaking people.
